Bridlington Quay Detecting Society, Army Benevolent Fund Rally
I am proud to say this on behalf of the BQDS members that this rally on the 17th of August 2008, will go down as a day to remember in our clubs history.
The Bridlington Quay Detecting Society, (BQDS), decided after their successful Christmas rally for the Action Medical Research charity, we needed a bigger challenge. Paul Robinson our events coordinator, came up with a cracking idea! "Dave why don`t we take on the army"? Paul then explained to me about the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF). The BQDS has in its membership several ex-service men, who as you would expect thought this was a good idea. So at the next meeting it was put to the membership who agreed it was a worthy cause, and voted it in.
The day arrived, Paul, Robert and I stood in the entrance to the barn and looked at the rain coming down. Paul said "We should have bought some bingo cards and played bingo for the raffle prizes". But hey we detectorist`s ain`t a wimpy lot, well not all of us, Don, Len and Peter turned up, also Paul Mackintosh who did a fantastic job on the BBQ with Paul Robinson. Then the invited guest started arriving. The day was in fact saved by the sun coming out just before lunch. We had several good finds on the day and three archaeologist on site to record all the finds.
I would like to thank all the clubs who turned out to support us on the day, also all the people who donated the wonderful items for our raffle, last but not least our club members who worked so hard on the day, and to the club members who could not make it "You missed a great day out.
This is just a short article on the ABF rally, I will be sending full details to the Searcher Mag.
I apologise to the members on be half of The Searcher magazine, the report was sent in has a full manuscript, but in the publishing world editors have the right to edit your story. I am afraid this one was not just edited it was slaughtered. I sent in loads of pictures, the main ones were the presentations to the Major General, Andrew the farmer & his wife , also the winner of the raffles, people detecting.
So to make up for this here are some photos.
